Flow Maintenance Heat Trace System
Flow maintenance involves heating a fluid in order to lower its viscosity so that it can be moved through a pipe or a tank.

nVent Thermal Management offers nVent RAYCHEM XL-Trace self-regulating heat trace cables with chemical resistant fluoropolymer jackets and RAYCHEM controllers to maintain a wide range of fluid temperatures in a variety of applications, including fuel oil lines and greasy waste disposal lines.

  • Fuel Oil Lines — A fuel line flow maintenance system is designed to maintain the fluid temperature to maintain flow. Typical applications include fuel lines that carry #2 fuel oil maintained at 40°F, #6 fuel oil maintained at 110°F or other fluids with viscosity that decreases sufficiently below 150°F to enable flow.
  • Greasy Waste Disposal Lines — A grease-line flow maintenance system is designed to maintain a 110°F (43°C) fluid temperature to keep the Fat, Oil, Grease mixture (FOG) in suspension from the kitchen to the grease interceptor. Typical applications include piping used for the disposal of waste oils and fats created in the cooking process. Typical applications include greasy waste lines from commercial restaurants pre-wash stations and floor drains.  These drains must exit the building to an exterior grease trap, and must kept at temperature the entire distance to keep the FOG from concealing.

The Proportional Ambient Sensing Control (PASC) built into the RAYCHEM controllers can save up to 30% of the energy used by conventional ambient control systems.
The RAYCHEM XL-Trace system comes in three different power levels to best suit the application. We have solutions for greasy waste and fuel oil line heating.  The RAYCHEM controllers provide multi-point temperature measurement, for temperature sensitive applications.


Simple Design

RAYCHEM XL-Trace self-regulating heat trace cables can be installed on metal or plastic pipes and can be wrapped around valves and heat sinks. They can be installed above ground or on insulated buried pipes without over- or under-heating.  XL-ERATE, the on-line design tool, simplifies the design process.  The RayClic connection kits provide time savings assembly.


Safety

The RAYCHEM controllers have integrated 30mA ground-fault protection to satisfy national electrical code requirements. For further reliability, the C910 and ACCS-30 controller have an automatic self-test feature which ensures that the ground-fault circuitry is intact.


Cost Savings

Installing RAYCHEM XL-Trace on greasy waste disposal lines eliminates FOG congealing on the interior of the piping, and avoids costly drain cleaning charges.


Self-Regulating Technology

nVent RAYCHEM self-regulating electric heat trace cables automatically adjust their power output to compensate for temperature changes. Heat is generated as electric current passes through the conductive polymer core between the conductors. As the temperature drops, the number of electrical paths through the core increases and more heat is produced. Conversely, as the temperature rises, the core has fewer electrical paths and less heat is produced.

Self regulating

RAYCHEM HWAT self‐regulating heat trace cables:

  • Are ideally suited for temperature sensitive installations
  • Have a cross-linked, conductive polymer core forming a parallel circuit
  • Have a self-regulating core that limits the maximum pipe temperature that the heating cables will maintain, making them compatible with both metal and plastic pipes

RAYCHEM XL‐Trace heat trace cables:

  • Can be used for metal or plastic pipes
  • Have a cross-linked, conductive polymer core forming a parallel circuit
  • Offer different power output levels to suit the needs of each application
  • Are protected by a tinned-copper braid encased in a durable outer jacket to withstand mechanical abuse during installation
  • Have a fluoropolymer outer jacket that is ideally suited for flow maintenance and buried pipe applications where increased durability and chemical resistance is required

Advanced Control Systems

nVent Thermal Management offers two advanced control systems for temperature maintenance system: the RAYCHEM C910 and the RAYCHEM ACCS-30. Both electronic controllers are specifically designed for use with the RAYCHEM XL-Trace cables and allow for energy savings.


RAYCHEM C910:
  • Is ideal for smaller buildings with limited hot water distribution systems
  • Controls a single heating cable circuit and

RAYCHEM ACCS-30:
  • Is ideal for large freeze protection systems or multiple heat-tracing applications
  • Can control up to 260 heating cable circuits

Both controllers provide:
